Contemporary Kasbah

Contemporary Courtyard

Traditional Moroccan courtyard house surrounds the site. The site is large enough to develop a Kasbah within the Kasbah. The design calls for a cluster of very small houses, all with their own private courtyards, and with a public kitchen, acting as a social condenser.

Blending private and Public Space

In Islamic architecture, the courtyard  house is meant to cool with natural ventilation, but also to shed the external views and allow total privacy. Those principles are respected but reinterpretaed here with a public plazze, and some connection to the streets on both sides of the lot.
